Burjeel Hospital is in the news with Dr Hussein Nasser Matlik, Consultant - Pediatric Neurology and Ms. Srividya Iyer, Head of Burjeel Neuro Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy Center and Head of Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation Unit at Burjeel Hospital, as they share their thoughts on gadgets and posture-related problems in children and youths.
In older days, children were warned that they would get "square eyes" if they sat too close to the television. But with so many youths now carrying screens in their pockets, doctors are warning of a new danger: "text neck". They say they are treating children as young as 10 for neck and back pain from over-use of computers and hand-held devices. Srividhya Iyer, head of physiotherapy and rehabilitation at Burjeel Hospital in Abu Dhabi, said that while neck pain was nothing new, the patients were a lot younger these days.
